About The Owners
Michael was born and raised in Norfolk where he started his restaurant career as a bellboy. Michael attended the University of Nebraska where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Restaurant Administration. Michael has had 12 years of Corporate Restaurant experience before moving back to Norfolk.
Amber (Jazwick) was born and raised on a cattle and crop farm west of Platte Center. She got her restaurant start at Traditions Inn in Columbus where her mom, Rita, was the chef for 15 years. (Rita is hand crafting our desserts here too!) Amber attended the University of Nebraska Omaha where she obtained degrees in Marketing, Management Mass Communication and Hospitality. She has had 12 years of Customer Service experience.
Michael and Amber met while working in Omaha and have been married since 2010. They have been wanting to move back home, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to open their dream restaurant.
Where Did the Name Come From?
One of the questions we get asked most is, “Where did the name come from?” The name struck Michael as he was driving down Hwy 81, looking at all the Black Angus cattle along the way. Fat Pig fell in line behind the “Black Cow” because we feature a heavy meat selection, and the best tasting pigs are the fat ones!

Black Cow has a polished casual atmosphere, perfect for both fine dining or stopping by after work. We have an emphasis on locally sourced food and a scratch kitchen. Everything is made in house, from our hand cut fries to our homemade desserts. We source our ingredients locally and place an emphasis on supporting our local Farmers Market with our seasonally inspired menus.
All meat is cut on premise, and all meat is smoked by Executive Chef Benjamin Wingett. We smoke our own brisket, ribs and pulled pork. Most of our pork comes locally from Kuper Farms. Our steaks are Greater Omaha. Amber’s mom, Rita, makes most of the desserts (the rest are made in house)-you must try one of the seasonal cheesecakes!
We have a full bar, and a large outdoor patio in the summer. Black Cow offers four rotating Nebraska beers on tap and features a heavy Nebraska selection of craft brews. Our whiskey, bourbon and scotch selections grow by the week-so come taste something new! We have an extensive selection of wine and offer many specialty crafted cocktails.
We offer Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m. Everyday! Well Cocktails/Draw Beers/House Wines are $3! There are an assortment of snacks available.
We focus on local and sustainable. We recycle all of our glass, cardboard, and food scraps. Food waste goes back to Kuper Farms where we feed the pigs that feed us-they like the french fries best! We use biodegradable to-go containers and paper straws. Help us reduce waste and make the world a better place!
